Site Updates and Introductions

First, I've made several updates to the sidebar on the site. Please give me some feedback on it. Ideally I'll continue to tweak the design on this site because right now its a little too generic for my taste. If you have any design ideas, please let me know.

Second, introductions are in order. If you feel like it, I would encourage everyone to write at least a brief message introducing himself/herself. If it's short, just throw it in the comments of this thread, and if it's long, put it on your own blog, and then put a link to it in the comments of this thread.

Finally, if you haven't offered input yet into the organization of this blog, be sure to read through the previous post and comments and throw your thoughts into the mix. The more input we get, the better we can make this. Thanks.

My introduction is here. If anyone doesn't know how to post a link in the comments, leave me a comment on my blog and I'll teach you.

A lot of you know me, but a few key facts would be:

-The Neverending Story is my favorite movie. While you may think I should be ashamed of this fact, I am not.

-I love to read. Soon, I'll be going back to school to study literature, which is what I hope to do for the rest of my life.

-I spend much of the time I'm not thinking about myself thinking about family members who have made very bad choices.

-On this blog, I'm most interested in trying to find out the driving force behind people's lives (i.e. what they feel is their purpose, what makes them happy) as it reveals itself through their comments and posts. You are all my friends, and I love hearing about your lives on your blogs, and I look forward to hearing more about your thoughts here. I enjoy debating issues, but mostly I'm just trying to figure things out.

-Book recommendations (and movies and music) are always appreciated, except if it's a stupid recommendation, and then I'll laugh at you. Kidding! Please recommend things, I won't really laugh. Please?

-Two key events in my life are a trip to Haiti where I learned that people suffer and a trip to Oxford where I learned that people think.

I guess more will reveal itself as we go, if you don't already know me.

I just posted my introduction . While you're there, you should scroll down to the Ricky Gervais video because it is really, really funny.

tcd this looks great. I really like the little color bars next to the "recent posts" part. It keeps it organized and adds nice color to the page. Maybe a little more contrast?

I just noticed something else. The faded Venn diagrams are a nice touch. It's cool that you incorporated a lot of the ideas into soul and meat.

I just redesigned the site... you probably noticed ;). If any of you find it too hard to read or a strain on the eyes let me know and I'll try to correct it so that we can find something everyone is happy with.

I'm going to follow What You Dream's lead and post key facts about me:

~I'm 24 and a second-year PhD student of musicology. My thesis will be on the intersection of music and politics in London during the English Reformation, 1550-1600.

~I've been doing a lot of soul-searching about my religious and political beliefs. Most likely, by the end of the year, I will either be an Anglican/Episcopalian or a Quaker.

~I am a support of the neo-Atheist movement. I think religion has no place in politics and that it is a shame that atheists cannot be elected purely because they do not have religious beliefs.

~I am a huge anglophile and have a degree from the University of Oxford.

~I'm also a huge fan of punk rock. Listening to punk rock gives me the kind of elation most people get from drugs or alcohol. I support the indie music scene by attending concerts in New York. I also love punk rock fashions, and I support local clothing designers by purchasing most of my clothing from a boutique called Pop Trash.

~I'm addicted to coffee, tea, wine and chocolate.

~I want to expand my interests in movies. PLEASE recommend movies for me to rent. And always, recommend books. I LOVE TO READ.

~I love, love exploring new places and learning about new cultures. I really want to visit India and am becoming more and more interested in Indian culture.
